One Summer

One SummerOne Summer by David Baldacci

From the Goodreads website:

"It's almost Christmas, but there is no joy in the house of terminally ill Jack and his family. With only a short time left to live, he spends his last days preparing to say goodbye to his devoted wife, Lizzie, and their three children. Then, unthinkably, tragedy strikes again: Lizzie is killed in a car accident. With no one able to care for them, the children are separated from each other and sent to live with family members around the country. Just when all seems lost, Jack begins to recover in a miraculous turn of events. He rises from what should have been his deathbed, determined to bring his fractured family back together. Struggling to rebuild their lives after Lizzie's death, he reunites everyone at Lizzie's childhood home on the oceanfront in South Carolina. And there, over one unforgettable summer, Jack will begin to learn to love again, and he and his children will learn how to become a family once more."

I liked this book.  It is not a murder, mystery, thriller book that I expect from David Baldacci.  It's just a good story about a man saving his family.

Cheetahs

Finally, at the Vumbura Plains camp on our last day in Botswana, we saw cheetahs.

They were just waking up, getting ready to start their hunting for the day.

 Really beautiful creatures.

I'm so glad we got the chance to see them.

The Eagle and the Sword

The Eagle and the Sword (Arthor, #2)The Eagle and the Sword by A.A. Attanasio

From the Goodreads website:

""The Dragon and the Unicorn" has been hailed as one of the ten best fantasy novels of 1995. Now A. A. Attanasio offers an equally stunning sequel--a rich, mythical epic in the tradition of Marion Zimmer Bradley's "The Mists of Avalon" that reaches straight into the heart of the Arthurian legend. He is Pendragon's son, the Eagle of Thor, destined to lead the doomed Celts against the Saxon invaders. Wielding his Roman sword "Short Life, " he marches into battle to claim the glory of Camelot. But the powerful wizard Merlin sees the senseless death on young Arthor's hands. Endless murder will bathe Camelot in blood, unless Arthor can recapture the majesty that is his destiny and pull the mighty Excalibur from the star-stone at Creation's radiant heart."

I loved this book.  It is so different from other Arthurian legends I have read.  Looking for more by this author.

Antelopes of Africa

These are some of the antelopes we saw in Africa.  There were the impala, lots of them.

Kudu with their beautiful horns.

Lechwe that like to stay near shallow water so the predators have a hard time chasing them. They are amazing jumpers.

A wildebeest hanging out with the impala.

There were wild dogs running around and the sable are grouping their babies in the middle of the adults.

A giant herd of cape buffalo.  I'm not sure if they are technically antelopes, but they fit in here better than any of the other animals we saw.

This one is making sure we don't get too close.

Not much danger of that, these guys are really big.
