Knitted Washcloths

Here's a little something I have been working on while I watch t.v.

They're not especially complicated.

I cast on 35 stitches on size 6 needles with a cotton yarn. Then I just knit one, purl one, back and forth until it's a washcloth.

Surprising what you can get done watching t.v.

Tree Skirt

The Christmas tree is put away and work has resumed on the tree skirt once again.  This is Cloud Filling, a stitch to fill in large empty spaces.  It's made by taking tiny stitches and weaving the thread through the stitches.

Then we have Fly Stitch Leaves.  I like the look and it's quite easy.  Basically, nested Fly Stitches.

The last picture is Cretan Stitch Leaves.  I traced a leaf shape, then filled it up with Cretan Stitches that are very close together.

I did a row of Siennese Stitch but I used one of those shiny threads that are terrible in photos.

Sawtooth Rail Fence

I'm making a quilt.  There's a surprise.  I got the kit from the Quilt Crossing last spring on one of my trips to Boise.  First, cut several zillion strips and sew them into half square triangles.  I'm using Thangles.

Cut them apart and peel off the paper.  I have them pinned in groups of three because I have to sew three together to make a strip.  Since there are 480 squares, I don't want them to get mixed up.

Press and

trim off all the dog ears.  I'll be at it for a while.

The Twelfth Card

The Twelfth Card (Lincoln Rhyme, #6)The Twelfth Card by Jeffery Deaver

A nail-biting suspense about why a professional hit-man would target a brilliant high-school girl, who is digging into a 140 year old mystery about her ancestor & his shocking secret.

For a Jeffery Deaver book, this one is o.k. and I recommend reading it.  There were exciting parts, and confusing parts.  Not one of my favorites, but then, all of them can't be my favorite.

More Houston

Here are a few more pictures from Houston International Quilt Festival.  "Random Rose Garden" by Karen Eckmeier.  She spoke at the Turtle Creek Quilters several years ago and I was lucky enough to be there. This is just a section of the quilt.  I couldn't get a good picture of the whole quilt.

My annual Gail Thomas spotting with her quilt "It's a Crazy Life".

This incredible work is "Pray for the Land of Green" by Masa Yanagimoto.

"Dear Jane, Welcome to the 21st Century" is so fun.  It was made by Valerie Mullally.
