Tree Skirt

I keep working away on the tree skirt.  These are Buttonhole Leaves.

I've never tried Shisha stitching before, so here's my first attempt.

My second one is a little better.

I didn't have mirrors, so I used coins we have collected in our travels.

Hens and Chicks

I've been quilting.  I usually let the quilt hang on Lenni for a while.  I can think about what I might want to do.

I didn't have much of a vision, so I stitched in the ditch.

Finally, an idea.

And lots of knots to bury.

Don't Go

Don't GoDon't Go by Lisa Scottoline

From the Goodreads Website:

"Bestselling author Lisa Scottoline has thrilled millions with her emotionally-charged novels that feature strong women exploring the boundaries of family, justice, and love.   In Don’t Go, she breaks new ground and delivers the story of a soldier who discovers what it means to be a man, a father, and ultimately, a hero. When Dr. Mike Scanlon is called to serve as an army doctor in Afghanistan, he’s acutely aware of the dangers he’ll face and the hardships it will cause his wife Chloe and newborn baby.  And deep inside, he doesn’t think of himself as a warrior, but a healer.

However, in an ironic turn of events, as Mike operates on a wounded soldier in a war-torn country, Chloe dies at home in the suburbs, in an apparent household accident.  Devastated, he returns home to bury her, only to discover that the life he left behind has fallen apart.  His medical practice is in jeopardy, and he is a complete stranger to the only family he has left - his precious baby girl.  Worse, he learns a shocking secret that sends him into a downward spiral.

Ultimately, Mike realizes that the most important battle of his life faces him on the home front and he’ll have to put it all on the line to save what’s dearest to him – his family.  Gripping, thrilling, and profoundly emotional, Don’t Go is Lisa Scottoline at her finest."

Lisa Scottoline was a "new to me" author.  This book was a nice break from my regular style of reading and I'll definitely read some of her other books.

Houston 2013

This is the last post for my Houston, 2013 trip.  This is Red Velvet by Lisa Calle.

A close up of the quilting.

Finally, a necktie quilt that I really like.  It's called "Recycled Silk Ties: No Necks Needed" by Virginia Anderson.  Not finding a website for her.

Here is Cathy Miller, The Singing Quilter and her crazy tiny hexagons.

Now, the park across the street always has something fun going on.  This year was an Art Festival.  Paul Pearman was displaying his amazing belt buckles, but this is what caught my eye.

Looks like I'm not the only one who thought this was amazing.

Hot Chocolate Squares

I found these in O, The Oprah Magazine.  I think it was the December issue.

All you need is sweetened condensed milk, lots of chocolate, and a little heavy cream.

They make cute little gifts.

Just drop a cube (unwrapped, of course) into a saucepan with a mugful of milk.  Heat until the chocolate has melted.  For a really rich treat, substitute a little heavy cream for some of the milk.

This is my new favorite way to make Hot Chocolate.  If only I had home made marshmallows too. (I could fix that with a little effort.)
