Yikes! A Baby

Seriously, how can this be a surprise to me?  I've know it was going to happen for months.

I've got the bare beginnings of an afghan for this baby. Now I need to KNIT FASTER!

Hens and Chicks - Finished

Finally, I have finished something.  It seems like it's taken forever but here it is.

The pattern is Hens and Chicks and the top was hand pieced.  Quilting was done on Lenni by me.

I looked back at my notes and I started this quilt in October, 2000. I'm a regular speed demon.

An Echo in the Bone

An Echo in the Bone (Outlander, #7)An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon

This is the 7th book of the Outlander series. From the Goodreads website:

"Jamie Fraser, erstwhile Jacobite and reluctant rebel, knows three things about the American rebellion: the Americans will win, unlikely as that seems in 1778; being on the winning side is no guarantee of survival; and he’d rather die than face his illegitimate son — a young lieutenant in the British Army — across the barrel of a gun. Fraser’s time-travelling wife, Claire, also knows a couple of things: that the Americans will win, but that the ultimate price of victory is a mystery. What she does believe is that the price won’t include Jamie’s life or happiness — not if she has anything to say.

Claire’s grown daughter Brianna, and her husband, Roger, watch the unfolding of Brianna’s parents’ history — a past that may be sneaking up behind their own family."

I get so caught up in these books. If you are an Outlander fan, this is a must read.  She does leave me hanging at the end, but I have the next book dowloaded to my Kindle.  I can't wait for the t.v. series to start in August.

Warthogs

Can you see him, hiding in his tree?

There's a warthog in there having his afternoon nap.

They are surprisingly hairy.  I expected a smoother skin, more like a hippo.

At King's Pool, they would wander right into the camp. We just stood still, really really  still, until they decided to move along.

Yogurt Making

I like yogurt but it's very difficult to find just plain yogurt here.  The grocery store is full of flavored and lowfat yogurts, but that's not what I want.  I was reading the Piece O Cake blog and she wrote about a yogurt maker that sounded almost too good to be true.  It didn't require a heating pad or leaving the oven on all day.

Meet my Vita Clay Yogurt Maker. It's really getting a workout.

Heat milk to 180 degrees, then let it cool down to 110 degrees.   I use the milk I get at the farmer's market that has cream on top.  Gently stir in a bit of yogurt.  It helps get things started.

Plug in the Vita Clay and set to "Yogurt".  Let it do it's thing for about 8 hours.

It's finished now, but I like my yogurt extra thick. I pour it into a strainer that has been lined with a dish towel and let it drain for an hour.

Almost looks like ice cream.  Yummy.  I always save a bit as starter for the next batch.
