German Brotchen

The cooking group got together and our recipe this time was German Brotchen.  We had two recipes so we ended up making them both and taste testing them.

One of the recipes had you make a well in the center of the flour and add the yeast mixture to the well.  Cover it and leave it alone for 15 minutes.  It looks like a science experiment when you uncover it.  

Look at that yeast go.  It was awesome.

This dough has been mixed and kneaded and is ready to start it's first rise.

 

 Isn't it beautiful?  Almost as beautiful as these brotchen.

We sampled them with ham, swiss cheese, and mustard.  And then I had them again for dinner, and lunch the next day.  The recipe that won the bake off was a little more complicated, but totally worth it.
