Lancaster Quilt Show

Oh my goodness, did I see some beautiful quilts.  You won't be seeing them because I am a little lazy.  The photography policy is a bit restrictive and while I don't mind giving credit to the quiltmakers (that's only right), I am not going to take the time to contact each one, ask for permission to show my picture of the quilt, and get permission from American Quilters Society to put my picture on the blog.  (That would be a mini rant.)  I am also hopeful that some of the quiltmakers will have websites so you can get a chance to look for yourselves.

As I sit here and try to type inadequate descriptions of the quilts, all I can suggest is that you might want to do a search for the following:

Alpha Block Celebration by Janet Stone.

Hellenic Rhapsody by Zena Thorpe.  Also check out her Kells Magnus Opus.  I saw that in Houston one year and all I have to say is "OH MY GOSH!!!"  Incredible work.

Winter Star pieced by Karen Pervier and quilted by Kim Buterbaugh.  That Kim can really quilt.

Northwest Passage by Diane Johnston.  Incredible reverse applique.

Kim and I arrived about 4:00 and the show didn't close until 6:00 so we decided to get a head start for Friday.  (We were a little worried about seeing everything.)  There were very few people there and although the quilts were incredible, there weren't as many as last year's show.  We were able to see all of the quilts and most of the vendors.  I ran into some friends from Turtle Creek Quilter's Guild.  By this point, I was lugging 6 queen size batts and a sashiko kit I had purchased.  I met up with Kim again and we visited a couple more shops (popcorn and Atomic Fire Balls) on the way to the hotel, then a delicious dinner at The Stockyard Inn. The most unusual crab cakes I have ever had, but they were very good.  I can't wait to try the popcorn, I got red and purple.  I'm very curious to see if it tastes different and how well it pops.

Friday, we went to the other two locations for the show and managed to see all the vendors.   Then it was back to the main show again.  I met Mary and Diane, who had come for the day, and wandered the quilts again.  It was crowded, but manageable.  It was the first quilt show for Mary and Diane and it was fun to walk with them and listen to their thoughts on the quilts.  We met up with Kim for lunch at Carr's which was very tasty.  Too bad we didn't have a little more time and coolers.  The Lancaster Farmer's Market was open and you all know how I love a farmer's market.   I rode home with Mary and Diane.  No, I didn't just abandon Kim, she needed to stay until Sunday.

It was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again next year.
